Urban Orangutan has released its first single from upcoming new album called ‘Humanimalistc Reign’ due for release in August 2021, courtesy of Dark Escapes Music.

‘The Fine Line’ features backing vocals from Etienne Rousseaux, violin from Emma Exton, and beatboxing from TuanSS, as well as what I believe to be my most epic guitar solo to date! It was recorded at Ếch Ếch Recording Studio in Ha Noi, Vietnam.

Urban Orangutan is the masterpiece of gifted American singer-songwriter David Fryer.

This song is about the often-precarious struggle against madness, beginning with a very personal point of view and expanding throughout the song to a more universal perspective addressing both myself and humanity at large regarding what I view as a growing collective insanity in the modern world, which is demonstrated by the damage our species is causing to itself and to the planet we live on. One might say that this is an example of me egotistically projecting my personal demons on to the collective human experience, but I believe that there exists a parallelism between the journey of the individual and that of the collective, between the particular and the universal, the momentary and the infinite. In a less abstract manner of speaking, there is plenty of data to be found that indicates growing struggles with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, loneliness, and other signs of mental and spiritual distress among our population, along with an alarming trend of people questioning very fundamental elements of rationality and scientific truth. I believe that humanity exists in a precarious moment in its journey, just as I do in mine, as I find myself – for the first time in eight years – struggling with severe panic attacks and anxiety, forcing me to consider making significant changes to my lifestyle, my mentality, and my plans.

It can be hard to reveal these things to others, especially when we are all competing to demonstrate our happiness and flourishing on social media, but I think it can be a comfort to yourself and to others who might feel alone with what they’re dealing with, those who might feel like they are living less joyful lives than all the smiling faces of Instagram.
